Inroduction:

General Surgery Oral Exam Preparation courses were created to improve the performance of the senior residents in the oral exam. The objectives of the General Surgery Board Oral Exam will be covered, including:

  • Case-based discussion.
  • Postoperative complications.
  • Operative procedures.
  • Demonstration and practical sessions of OSCE stations with simulated patients.
  • Communication skills and breaking bad news sessions and mock exam for different oral exam stations. 

The objectives and the sessions were designed based on the blueprint of the General Surgery Saudi Board Oral Exam and previous exams experience.

Learning Objectives:

  • Well practical preparation for the oral exam of the General Surgery Saudi Board Exam.
  • Describe the management and surgical approaches of the common general surgery diseases; specifically: diseases of the head and neck, endocrine, breast, alimentary tract, hepatobiliary, hernia, comprehensive trauma management, common emergency diseases and postoperative surgical complications.
  • Demonstrate and understand the tumor staging and describe the appropriate surgical and nonsurgical management for each stage.
  • Describe the principals of preoperative and postoperative care.
  • Understand and recall the steps of the common operative procedures.
  • Highlights on the operative pitfalls and different surgical approaches.
  • Describe and explain the related surgical complication.
  • Highlights on the communication skills and breading bad news of the oral exam
  • Mock exam practice on different parts of the oral exam objectives
